Smoke, Cocoa and Leather: The Best New Men’s Fragrances for Autumn 2026

The clocks go back this Sunday, which means it’s officially time to shove the summer citrus to the back of the shelf. And honestly? Good timing, because this autumn’s crop of men’s launches is one of the strongest we’ve had in a while.

If there’s one theme running through the lot, it’s warmth. Cocoa, tobacco, vanilla, leather, sticky balsams – the big houses have all gone cosy at the same time. Even the freshies have a gourmand twist. Here are the ones actually worth your money (and your wrist) this season.

1. Tom Ford Tobacco Chocolat

Let’s start with the headline act. Tobacco Chocolat landed in the Private Blend line at the start of September, after a short Harrods-only run in August, and it’s the release everyone’s been talking about.

Think of it as Tobacco Vanille’s moodier younger brother. Instead of creamy vanilla you get Tom Ford’s own “cocoa smoke” accord – dark chocolate meets dry tobacco leaf – lifted by a hit of orange and settled into Peru balsam, patchouli and ambery woods. It opens loud, mellows into something drier and more grown-up, then gets sweeter and more chocolatey the longer you wear it.

Is it cheap? Absolutely not – RRP is £152 for 30ml, though we’ve already spotted it discounted at the usual online retailers. But if you’ve ever loved Tobacco Vanille, you need to smell this.

Wear it for: date nights, dinners, anything with candles.

2. Acqua di Parma Cedro Virtuoso

Not ready to go full chocolate yet? This is your bridge. Cedro Virtuoso keeps Acqua di Parma’s trademark bergamot brightness up top but drops it onto toasty hazelnut and Virginia cedar. It’s the citrus-and-woods DNA the brand does so well, just with a jumper on.

Wear it for: crisp October mornings, the office, weekend coffee runs.

3. Maison Francis Kurkdjian Oud Velvet Mood

The newest – and richest – member of Kurkdjian’s Oud Mood family. Saffron and a soft peach note take the edge off a leathery oud, while copaiba balm gives the whole thing a smooth, resinous glow. It’s plush rather than punchy, which makes oud far more wearable for anyone who’s been scared off by the barnyard stuff.

Wear it for: big occasions. This is a splurge bottle, so treat it like one.

4. Elie Saab L’Homme Intense

A really nice surprise. Neroli and cardamom open things up, with a little lemon and green violet leaf, before leather, cedar and patchouli take over in the base. It’s essentially orange blossom done the masculine way – polished, slightly spicy, and versatile enough to wear most days.

Wear it for: work, smart-casual evenings, when you want to smell expensive without shouting about it.

5. Burberry Hero The Elixir

Burberry has taken Hero to Elixir strength, and it’s gone straight for the leather. Smooth vanilla and leather up front, cedar in the middle, then a warm amber and tonka base that hangs around for ages. Perfumer Aurélien Guichard is behind it, and it’s built for performance.

Wear it for: cold nights out. A couple of sprays is plenty.

6. BOSS Bottled Beyond Intense

The high-street hero of the bunch. Hugo Boss has paired orange blossom with textured leather in a shiny silver bottle with a leather-trimmed cap. It’s clean, easy and crowd-pleasing – exactly what you want from a BOSS release – and a great shout if you’re after something you can pick up at the airport or on the high street this weekend.

Wear it for: literally everything. A proper everyday signature.

7. Montblanc Legend Elixir

Okay, technically this one dropped back in May, but it’s only now that the weather’s caught up with it. A fougère-amber built around whisky, cardamom and incense, with a sneaky caramelised pineapple on top that gives it a gourmand twist. Montblanc is claiming up to 24 hours of performance, and it’s one of the best-value ways into the warm-and-boozy trend.

Wear it for: date night on a budget.

The comeback: Jean Paul Gaultier Fleur du Mâle

Collectors, this one’s for you. After years of being discontinued (and going for silly money on eBay), Fleur du Mâle is officially back for 2026. The first batch sold out fast, with a restock at the start of October. Early reviews say the new version is brighter and easier to wear than the original, while keeping that odd, powdery orange-blossom character that made it a cult favourite. If you missed it first time round, now’s your chance.

One to watch: Onside x Jude Bellingham

A bit of local pride to finish. Former Blues man Jude Bellingham has teamed up with men’s grooming brand Onside – co-founded by NBA star Jayson Tatum – on a pair of signature scents, one for each of them. We’ll be keeping a close eye on UK availability, so watch this space.

How to wear gourmands without smelling like a bakery

Warm, sweet scents are brilliant in autumn, but they can tip over quickly. A few quick rules:

  • Go easy. Two or three sprays max. Elixirs and extraits especially.
  • Pulse points, not clothes. Spraying straight onto a wool coat can make sweet notes go cloying and stick around for weeks.
  • Match the moment. Save the chocolatey stuff for evenings; reach for something like Cedro Virtuoso or L’Homme Intense during the day.

The verdict

If you’re only buying one bottle this autumn, make it Tobacco Chocolat if budget allows, or BOSS Bottled Beyond Intense if it doesn’t. Fancy something different? Elie Saab L’Homme Intense is the dark horse of the season.
