Green Irish Tweed has long been the king of Creeds fragrance lineup. Released in 1985 It has proven to be a true king by remaining current and popular throughout.
However in 2010 the new boy started at school. Of course I’m referring to Aventus. Possibly the biggest rockstar currently in the fragrance industry. Never have I known a fragrance to be so universally loved, and there’s no sign of that stopping soon.
I can only imagine that this is how Green Irish Tweed was greeted after it was initially released, is history repeating?
So should we concede that Aventus can just walk in and overshadow the long legacy that Green Irish Tweed has left? I think not. As much as I love Aventus, I still can’t deny the feeling I get when I wear Green Irish Tweed.
Fragrances are not only judged on scent and performance. They need to be considered as experiences. Green Irish Tweed has never failed but to make me feel fantastic, a true gem that everyone should try.
But what about Cool Water? The elephant in the room. Released in 1988, Cool Water was once the most popular fragrance on sale and it just so happens that it bears a striking resemblance to Green Irish Tweed. I’ve taken part in challenges between Green Irish Tweed and it’s various smell a likes. Now I’ll concede that they are very similar, but the differences are there. I often see fragrances as colours, and forgive me for being influenced by name and or bottle colour. Green Irish Tweed and cool water meet in the middle as a Teal, but then very much go their Blue (Cool Water) and Green (Green Irish Tweed) directions.
I must admit something. When I first tried Green Irish Tweed, it did little for me. I’d tried numerous of the cheaper smell a likes, and impressed I wasn’t.
I judged too soon, as with each wearing I fell in love. Never will I doubt him again, King GIT!
