Top 10 most versatile mens fragrances 2015

Fragrances can be expensive, especially once your nose develops and you start appreciating higher end niche scents. So the smart move would be to own fragrances that you could wear throughout the year, rather than having season specific bottles.

Of course that won’t stop me ignoring that completely and expanding my collection. However I’m putting this list together for the gents who love fragrances, but aren’t ready to start building a large collection.

When describing a fragrance as versatile, I’m referring to it being suitable to several/all seasons and multiple occasions. These are my personal choices from my experience in fragrances so far. So in no particular order, here are my top 10 versatile mens fragrances.

Aventus by Creed- Don’t act surprised, you knew it was coming. Can be worn all year and for any occasion. With dominant notes of pineapple, birch and musk, it always smells great and never fails to get compliments.

Bleu de Chanel by Chanel – In many ways I consider BdC the designer equivalent to Aventus. The striking incense note and fantastic performance means that this works on my skin at any time of year.

L’humaniste by Frapin – It’s a citrus with a big spicy mid and base that is done just right that it makes it clean and refreshing but also gives it enough weight to wear on any occasion, much like Bleu de Chanel.

Boss Bottled by Hugo Boss – My wildcard entry. Fragrances snobs may well turn their noses up at this long standing best seller. There’s a reason for its success though, it smells great. It would work well in any occasion and with the apple and vanilla notes this would work great in the cooler months.

Green Irish Tweed by Creed – My self proclaimed king of Creed. A beautiful fragrance that never fails to make me feel anything less than fantastic. With dominant notes of lemon verbena, iris and Violet, and a gorgeous ambergris note in the base. A great choice for any occasion.

Dior Homme Sport by Dior – I’ve had a love/hate relation with Dior Homme, yet Dior Homme Sport has always been in my favour. Despite the marketing, this is not strictly a sport scent. It works great day or night, a compliment getter for sure.

Terre D’Hermes by Hermes – This was one of the first fragrances I bought once I really started getting into this hobby. An earthy vetiver, balanced with a bitter orange note from the well regarded nose of Jean Claude Ellena. Extremely versatile and a staple of many gents wardrobe.

Grey Vetiver by Tom Ford – This one is a recent addition to my collection. This really is a gentleman’s scent. Can be worn casually or dressed up, get your noses on this one guys!

Original Vetiver by Creed – I really made a u-turn on vetiver. From hating it, I now absolutely love it. I get amazing performance from this one, and would smell great anytime/anywhere.

Vetiver Fatal by Atelier Cologne – Yes I know, another vetiver! This is a warm creamy vetiver though, with a beautiful plum note. Can be worn year round imo, but I particularly love it on a rainy day.
