Today I’m sampling Absolue Pour le Soir by Maison Francis Kurkdjian. With dominant notes of white honey, benzoin and incense. It’s not often I find myself inclined to scrub a fragrance, but this one tested my limits. The opening is possibly the most unpleasant I’ve smelled from any fragrance! Somewhere between urine and a full on anamalic stank, sound bad to you? It was! Pass the soap! However I persevered and it did improve. The anamalic notes did fade away after around 10 mins, allowing the dominant notes of this composition to shine through. Whilst it was now less unpleasant, I still didn’t like it. I’ve seen this fragrance compared to smelling like a church, and I can absolutely see what they mean, incense, pews and candles was correct! That may sound nice to some, but it’s not something I want to smell of. Then just to top it off, it gets very sweet! The honey and benzoin come in to make it sickly, and add another layer of unpleasantness to the mix. I will say that the performance is excellent though! I wish it wasn’t, but it is and it’s still on my arm. Now of course this is just my opinion, and I’d love to hear if you have a different take on this fragrance.
