Tobacco Night by Curionoir

I’m always drawn to fragrances that resemble the smell of a fine cigar, so how about a smoked pipe. Tobacco smoke is demonised in modern culture, but the comforting scent remains ever popular in fragrance, and particularly to my nose.

Curionoir was founded in New Zealand by Tiffany Jeans. Tiffany combined personal experience along with drawing inspiration from her Maori heritage to create her line of fragrances. Tobacco Night was inspired by memories of a smoked tobacco pipe on a summer night, which conjures amazing imagery and a fragrance to match.

Tobacco Night opens with a hit of sage and coriander, sharp, herbal and aromatic. There’s a sense of the depth that’s waiting below but remains very green for the initial minute on my skin. Whilst not listed as a note, I get a whisky vibe meets pencil shavings. That may not sound appealing to some, but id urge you to try it.

A few minutes into wearing and the star of the show reveals itself. Of course the astonishing tobacco note. I’m less familiar with pipe tobacco than cigars, but I somehow get a combination with tobacco night. Initially, the tobacco smells dry and blends perfectly with the green notes in the opening. However, the beauty of this fragrance reveals itself as the scent dries down further.

The base of Tobacco Night consists of elemi, amber and musk. A rich combination of warm and resinous notes that interact amazingly with the tobacco. The deeper into the dry down i got, the tobacco changed from dry and green to dark, smokey and bellowing. I was getting the experience that the initial imagery gave me of a smoked pipe on a warm summer evening.

The finer details of Tobacco Nights packaging.

In terms of performance i got projection of 3-4 hours and longevity of 10+ hours. Tobacco Night is an extrait de parfum concentration and comes in a dab bottle. Whilst not a common way of applying fragrances these days, it was a delightful change and made me appreciate just how little goes a long way with Tobacco Night.

For those of you who had a pipe smoking relative, this one could be the walk down memory lane you’ve been seeking. For everyone else, this is a tobacco scent worthy of your attention.
